Basic Concepts:
According to the National standard 862.1-85 «Parquet
product. Plank flooring. Specifications» plank flooring consists
of floor planks t&g.
Floor plank is a detail of massive wood
with tongues and grooves, by means of which it is linked with the similar plank
during the installation.
Tongue is a protruding part of the floor
plank linking the adjacent planks during the installation.
Groove is a hollow at the lateral and face edges of the
floor plank, in which the tongue enters for the linking
adjacent plank.
Wear layer is the top layer of the floor
plank from the face side till the top part of the tongue or groove,
whose wear determines the term of parquet flooring covering life.
Face side of the floor plank is the outer
side of wear layer; backside is the side opposite the face
side.
The right floor plank is the plank with the tongue on
the right side (if you look at the face side), and with the tongue on the
longitudinal edge (if you look from the watcher's side).
Main Requirements:
To grant the top quality level of ready-made plank flooring,
not absolute dimensions of floor planks (length, width,
thickness) are important, but, first of all the humidity index and admittance on
their deviations from the nominal.
According to the National standard 862.1-85 maximum plank’s length deviation
is ± 0,3 mm; width and thickness deviation is ± 0,2 mm; the
tongue is 1 mm shorter than the depth of the groove, and admittance on
their dimensions should be - 0.3 mm and + 0.3 mm (i. e. the
tongue should never run into the face side of the groove). Maximum deviation
from perpendicularity of adjacent edges composes 0.2 mm at the distance of
100 mm from the corner and is checked by the set square and probes.
Maximum deviations from planks’ flatness:
- Longitudinal — 0.6 mm at the length 1000 mm;
- Diametrical — 0.2 mm (not depending from plank width)
Maximum humidity: 9% ± 3% , i. e. from 6 till 12%.
Plank parquet selection according to its appearance and processing
quality
As a rule, plank flooring is selected according to a certain
set of parameters and to its appearance: presence or absence of knots, sapwood,
color variation, sawn: flat, quarter/semi quarter (or as in russian — radial and
tangential), etc.
According to the National standard 862.1-85,
depending on the quality level, wood grades and processing, floor
planks are subdivided into two grades: A (the highest
category of quality) and B (the first category of quality).
|

|
Radial — premium parquet (A category GOST
862.1-85) of radial (quarter/semi quarter) sawn only (the cut passes through the
trunk’s radius or 60 degrees perpendicularly to the axis). It has an even
structure. Medullar rays (marble) are present. Wood and mechanical defects are
not acceptable. |
|

|
Radial Select — selected premium parquet (A grade GOST
862.1-85) of radial (quarter/semi quarter) sawn only (the cut passes through the
trunk’s radius or 60 degrees perpendicularly to the axis. It has an even
structure and even color tone (variation is possible but no more than 10%).
Medullar rays (marble) are not acceptable. Wood and mechanical defects are not
acceptable. |
|

|
Tangential — premium parquet of tangential (flat) sawn (A
grade GOST 862.1-85) (the cut passes at the distance from the medullar or
tangent to the annual layer of the trunk). It has live and rich structure, which
is formed by annual layers crossing due to the trunk’s tapering. Wood and
mechanical defects are not acceptable. Medullar rays are almost
unseen. |
|

|
Standard — premium parquet (A grade GOST 862.1-85) without selection to the sawn. Sapwood, knots and mechanical defects are not
accepted. |
|

|
Natural — parquet without selection to the sawn, having
natural wood pattern. Sapwood is acceptable, but no more than 25%. Knots are
acceptable, but no more than 3 and up to 3mm in diameter at the face side. The
pitch of grains and wood veins are acceptable. Mechanical defects are not
acceptable. |
|

|
Rustic — parquet without selection to the sawn corresponding
to the 1 category of quality (B grade of the National standard 862.1-85). Big
light and dark knots more than 3 mm in diameter but no more than 3 at the face
side are acceptable. Sapwood and the pitch of grains are acceptable. Cracks not
yielding onto the face side, and mechanical defects (no more than 1.5 mm in
depth) are acceptable. |
The comparative table of selection criteria
| Direction of wood grains at the face side |
| Radial Select |
Significant deviation from the longitudinal axis is not acceptable (no more
than 10 mm at the plank width) |
| Radial Natural |
Mainly longitudinal direction of grains. Some deviations from the
longitudinal axis are acceptable. |

Is not under consideration. The cut passes through the trunk’s radius

Note: According to geometrical parameters and
humidity, floor planks are not subdivided into the grades. They
either correspond to the standard or not, i.e. they are considered to be
defective.
We produce under the order.
