Solid wood flooring

Massive board makes a good alternative to natural piece parquet but it has larger dimensions. Massive board simplifies flooring making this process faster and creates an image of expensive, beautiful, and elite floor. Massive board looks better in vast rooms visually enhancing the volume. The ‘land', which adds elegant style, is stipulated to be on the long side of the board. Massive parquet boards are delivered on sale both with lacquered covering made at the plant, and without it. Both in Russia , and abroad, modern massive board is manufactured with brand new equipment.

Main requirements :

The National standard 862.1-85 relates to parquet planks with the length of p to 500 mm , so the strict requirements of the standard to geometrical parameters of parquet are not applicable formally to the boards.

The National standard 2695-83 “Hardwood timber. Technical conditions». is applicable to hardwood products with the length of more than 0.5 m . This standard specifies maximal thickness deviation ± 1,0 mm for the boards of up to 32 mm thick; width deviation ± 2,0 mm for the boards of up to 100 mm wide; more than 100 mm width deviation - ± 3,0 mm . Sawn timber is divided into 3 sorts according to the wood quality. The boards from 110 to 200 mm wide of premium sort allow encased healthy knots in the size of up to 20 mm in the amount of two pieces for each length meter as well as cracks on the exposed surface up to 1/6 deep and long in relation to the thickness and length of the board (returning only to one end). Mechanical defects and damage of the wood are allowed within the range of the above stated deviations from nominal dimensions. Falling out, rotten and rotting knots are not allowed. For the oak boards of premium sort, sapwood up to ½ thickness and 1/3 length of the boards is allowed.

Board crook is allowed with dimensions:

• oblong – 0,5% of the length(i. е .10 mm for 2 m );
• cross – 1,0% of the width (i. е . 1,0 mm for 10 cm ).

Apart from the specified above, there is another standard: National standard 8242-88 “Molded stock of wood and wooden materials for construction”. It sets more strict requirements for the floorboards but it is applicable only to the products of strongly determined profile, which are manufactured by our industry.

Compare: maximal deviations from nominal meaning: ± 3 mm to the length of the board, ± 1 mm to the width and thickness; the crook of the board is not more than 3 mm regarding 1 m long, and 2 mm wide not depending on its parameter.

Sorts of massive boards :

Sorting types adopted in Yantarnaya Pryad

• Radial – massive board of premium category of radial saw cut with virtually even color wood structure.
  
  Allowed: boards with a slight curve of radial fibers (1/3 of the length), fibers bending to 30º, live, light knot matching the wood color up to 5 mm .
  
  Not allowed: sapwood, wood defects, shatters and mechanical damage.
  
  
• Premier - massive board of premium category, tangential and semi-tangential saw cut with an even color structure of the wood.
  
  Allowed: Live, light knots matching the wood color up to 5 mm . Slight changes in the color range.
  
  Not allowed: Knots on the side edge, mechanical damage, sapwood, shatters, and not scraped enough.
  

• Natural – massive board of radial, semi-radial and tangential saw cut.
  
  Allowed: Color differences within the range of the wood tone. Small, slight cracks in the knot area. Live, light knots matching the wood color up to 30 mm . Dark knots up to 3 mm . Slight sap is allowed ( not more than 5 mm wide and 1/3 long). Small end cracks - up to 10 mm . Live, light knots at the side border of the board.
  
  Not allowed: Mechanical damage, shatters, not sufficiently scraped wood, through knots. Color changes characteristic for the wood.
  

• Rustic – massive board of radial, semi-radial and tangential saw cut.
  
  Allowed: Color differences, live, light knots matching the color of the wood up to 50 mm , live knots on the side edge, dead, not fallen out knots up to 15 mm , dead knots up to 5 mm (through). End cracks ( not spreading up to 20 mm ), not sufficiently scraped wood.
  
  Not allowed: Mechanical damage and defects of the wood, which are not eliminated with polishing and spackling of massive board.
